With big names of airlines in the US, Alaska Airlines is still the fifth largest airlines based on passenger traffic and is one of the most popular U.S. West Coast air carriers. It is also fifth among others when it comes to measure by fleet size and the number of destinations served. The company started when Liniqus Mac McGee painted "McGee Airways" on the side of a three-passenger Stinson and started flying out of Anchorage. And   mine owner Wesley “Earl” Dunkle loaned money to pilots Steve Mills, Charlie Rattan and Jack Waterworth to start Star Air Services.  In 1934, McGee merged with Star Air Service, creating the largest airline in Alaska. These are the main people behind the birth of Alaska Airlines.

Following the merger with Virgin America, the airline has also expanded internationally, with service to Costa Rica, Canada and Mexico. Known for our industry-leading reliability, service and guest rewards, flyers continue to rank Alaska Airlines for its service and inflight experience. Alaska Airlines ranked No. 1 among traditional carriers for the 12 consecutive years. The airline still has its headquarters in Seattle. .

Reducing environmental impact to protect the beautiful places in which we live, and Alaska Airlines fly, is part of the DNA. Alaska also is the leading U.S. airline on the Dow Jones Sustainability Index, and has also been ranked No. 1 in fuel efficiency seven consecutive years by the International Council on Clean Transportation, an independent, nonprofit research organization. Due to the economic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, Alaska Airlines announced that it will be reducing its number of employees by 30%. By the end of 2020, the firm is set to cut out around 7,000 job positions out of its 23,000 total.

Destinations

Together with its regional partners Horizon Air and SkyWest Airlines, operate a large domestic route network, primarily focused on connecting from the Pacific Northwest, West Coast, and Alaska to over one hundred fifteen destinations in the contiguous United States, Hawaii, Canada, Costa Rica, and Mexico. Some of the locations served in the carrier's namesake state include Anchorage, Adak, Barrow, Cordova, Fairbanks, Juneau, Ketchikan, Kodiak, Kotzebue, King Salmon, Nome, Prudhoe Bay, and Sitka, and several of which are inaccessible by road.

Some cities in Alaska's network with less traffic are served by regional airline partners under a capacity purchase agreement. Under that agreement, the regional airline is paid to operate and maintain aircraft used on flights that are scheduled and marketed by Alaska Airlines. Alaska's airline partners include wholly-owned regional subsidiary Horizon Air, and carriers SkyWest Airlines, and Ravn Alaska. Alaska Airlines is also a member of Oneworld alliance and has codeshares or mileage partnerships with 23 airlines around the world.

The frequent-flyer program of Alaska Airlines and subsidiary Horizon Air is called Mileage Plan. The program's airline partners include members of all three major airline alliances like Oneworld, SkyTeam, and Star Alliance, as well as several unaffiliated carriers. Earn one mile for every mile flown on Alaska airlines, even on the lowest fare. A client can earn when you shop, dine, rent a car, stay in a hotel, and more. Cancellation & Refund Policy

In Alaska airlines, you can cancel your flights within 24 hours of purchase for a full refund, or make a change* to your itinerary within 24 hours of purchase with no change fees. If you need to cancel your flights, we will refund you the cost of your unused tickets. If you need to change* your flights, you can do so one time without paying any change fees.

On the other hand you'll still be responsible for any fare increases and taxes that apply to your new itinerary. This policy only applies to tickets booked for travel starting more than 24 hours from the time of purchase. If you change* or cancel tickets purchased within 24 hours of the scheduled departure time, your ticket is subject a $125 change fee.
